Global Action Programme

In 2005, the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (UNDESD) was launched to enhance the role of education in promoting sustainable development. Its successes have brought about growing international recognition of ESD as an essential element of quality education and a key enabler for sustainable development. With the UNDESD coming to an end in 2015, the new follow up UNESCO Global Action Programme (GAP) was launched with the aim of building on the achievements of the UNDESD, and scaling up education and learning to accelerate progress towards sustainable development.

In May 2015, Untouched World™ was invited to Paris to assist in the setup of GAP. The  UNESCO GAP website recognises Untouched World™ as one of three global exemplars for empowering and mobilising youth. The Untouched World™ Charitable Trust offers youth leadership scholarships across four programme sites in New Zealand. Each programme focuses either on water quality, use and availability, or the biodiversity of the country's national bird (Kiwi) and is designed to encourage changes in behaviour and empower youth action for Education for Sustainable Development
