At the heart of what we do is a simple purpose: to make garments with care and intention, and to help slow the cycle of consumption. That means keeping your pieces looking beautiful for longer, and staying one step ahead of any clothes moths along the way.

It was late autumn when our Marketing Content Manager, Esme, reached for her favourite merino jumper, only to find neat little holes near the cuff. The house was spotless. No dust. No crumbs. No signs of lazy housekeeping. Still, the damage had been done.

The truth is, moths don’t discriminate. Even the most lovingly cared-for wardrobes can quietly harbour moth eggs or larvae. It’s not about cleanliness, these tiny intruders can enter with vintage finds, fresh flowers, or a warm breeze through an open window. Their work is quiet, often only discovered when you pull out a beloved piece.

So, what can you do?

Firstly, make sure your wardrobe area for your natural fibre knitwear is light and has plenty of air movement. Clothes moths love dark, undisturbed places. If this isn’t possible, make sure your natural fibre garments (particularly animal fibres like wool) are kept in an airtight storage containers while not in use regularly.

Regular washing is your next best line of defence. It not only removes moth eggs (often less than half a millimetre in size) but also gets rid of oils, hair, and other natural fibres they’re drawn to. Our Ecopossum™ pieces should be washed every 3–5 wears to help extend the life of the knit. If you’re wearing them close to the skin, every 2–3 wears is even better.

The good news? These 100% natural fibres don’t shed microplastics in the wash—just be sure to use a wool-friendly detergent.

The most important wash, though, is the one before you store your knits for summer. That deep clean removes what moths love most and gives you peace of mind. Folding away soft, freshly laundered wool with the faint scent of eucalyptus is one of those small, satisfying rituals. A quiet act of care that pays off when the air cools again.

Want to take it a step further? We’ve been loving these hanging sweater bags from The Nile. Not only do they keep your knits protected, they also help maintain the shape by keeping pieces folded.

If moths do sneak in, send your washed garment in for repair as soon as you notice damage. Once a hole grows larger than a dollar coin, it’s much harder to mend discreetly.

We’re here to help your pieces last—season after season—with a little care and a lot of love.
